A creative team that upcycles marine plastic into marbled accessories

Kaeru Design is a creative team based in Kanazawa that transforms marine plastic
washed up on the shore into accessories. The team consists of three members: Creative Director Takayanagi, Art Director Inoue, and Accessory Designer Kawasaki.

The brand was born from a combination of a passion for environmental issues and the power of design, inspired by the profound impact Takayanagi felt in the Maldives upon witnessing a ‘sinking nation’.

The process of collecting plastic from the sea, washing it, sorting it, melting it down, polishing it and transforming it into accessories not only restores value to materials that would otherwise be discarded, but also fosters the hope that ‘we can change the future with our own hands’.

The brand has attracted significant attention from various quarters, including a collaboration with zucca, winning the Governor’s Award at the Ishikawa Prefecture Design Exhibition, and receiving the Social Products Award at the 2021 Social Products Awards.
